Gordon Robertson
You'll need Gordon's help to get anywhere in Leeds - he looks after the traffic lights in the city. Gordon came to Leeds aged 1. He joined City Evangelical Church after he was converted as a student in 1970. Gordon's wife, Clare, runs a Christian bookshop in Headingley, and teaches an Explorer class in the church.
His story:
"I have lived in Leeds since I was 1 year old! I was brought up to go to church. When I went to university (Durham, to do Maths). I thought I was a Christian, and so went along to some Christian meetings. Getting to know real Christians showed me that my religion was not the same as a relationship with God. I asked Christ to change me, and discovered that knowing God was completely different from trying to be a Christian. I returned to Leeds and joined City Evangelical Church, which I attended for over 30 years.
I now work for Leeds City Council looking after traffic lights throughout the city."
People's stories
We plan to interview some of the members of the church - asking them about how they became a Christian, and their lives as Christians. Here is the first - an interview with Richard Taylor.
